A mobile city-building game challenging players to transform the deserts of Saudi Arabia into futuristic smart cities
The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs in Saudi Arabia approached our agency to seek our expertise in designing a gamified process to engage citizens in identifying and addressing visual distortions within Saudi cities.
We took gamification to the next level by empowering Saudi citizens not only to address visual distortions but also to envision and build a holistic smart city. However, the power to build this city is based on their engagement in the Ministry's campaigns. This approach motivates active participation and fosters a sense of ownership and pride, transforming the reporting process into a dynamic and rewarding experience.
Brand
Empowering Saudis
to build a futuristic vision for their homeland
Brand Strategy
We benchmarked against top city-building games and created a people-powered vision to build Saudi Arabia's tomorrow, aligning with cultural relevance and national goals.
Brand Identity
The logo blends a palm tree with urban streets, symbolizing heritage and progress. The modern typography ensures legibility, and the color palette evokes stability, growth, and optimism.
Brand Content
We integrated Saudi cultural elements into the game. The narrative, "Saudi in the Eyes of Its People," lets players shape their homeland's future, fostering deep emotional connection and pride.
Game
Transforming deserts of Saudi Arabia into Smart Cities
Game Mechanics
We designed Rouyati to appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers. By incorporating accessible mechanics for newcomers and deep, strategic elements for seasoned players, we ensured broad appeal and a challenging experience for all.
Game Dynamics
Our approach involved educating players about environmental challenges and solutions. As players build smart cities, they gain practical insights into sustainable urban development, blending entertainment with real-world learning.
Game Character
We introduced Rashida, an AI storyteller, to guide players through their journey. Using augmented reality (AR), players interact with real-world locations, solving challenges and enhancing their engagement through immersive gameplay.
Media
Creating Buzz
and Sustained Engagement
Awarness Phase
We created awareness through a multi-phase campaign: a teaser campaign to excite, a reveal campaign to educate, and an influencer campaign to entertain. This approach built anticipation and excitement around the game.
Consideration Phase
To encourage players to download and try the game, we transformed Saudi landmarks into virtual assets to engage citizens. We showcased players' work through 3D printing exhibits and integrated brands to expand reach and visibility.
Retention Phase
To retain players' interest, we recognized their excellence and encouraged user-generated content, allowing citizens to shape their future. Thematic gameplay tied to cultural celebrations kept the experience fresh and engaging.
